Hello Vancouver! I’m Britanny, and I am new to the city. Join me as I uncover new reasons to fall in love with Vancouver each week!

In lieu of Thanksgiving having just passed, I’d like to start by saying that I cannot express how thankful I am to call this wonderful city home. As we speak I am currently experiencing my first fall in Vancouver, so as you can expect my mind is being blown daily. Fall has always been my favourite time of year. The stunning colours, mild temperatures, general coziness, and the crisp, beautifully smelling air. Though I love fall so deeply, it’s always a bitter-sweet season for me as it is ever so fleeting.

When fall first began to emerge in Vancouver I was overjoyed and overwhelmed by the splendour. The streets canopied by grand oaks and cedars exploding with colour, rich brown chestnuts scattered around the sidewalk, cool air rolling of the ocean, sweater-clad people bustling about, warm beverages in hand, and a peaceful feeling I haven’t yet been able to describe. Fall is a season which makes you feel equally cozy outside and in, unlike summer where you feel out of place indoors or winter where hibernation feels more natural. Inside with a blanket and a cup of tea is lovely in the fall, but as is a nice stroll, hike, or jog to stimulate the senses. So, if you haven’t gathered, I’m rather fond of fall! As I normally do when fall first strikes, I have been waking up each morning since fearing it will have passed. Each morning I’ve been pleasantly surprised that fall is, somehow, still here!

I have just returned from thanksgiving back in Alberta where winter is in full swing, so I was even more astonished that fall doesn’t seem to be slipping away just yet back here. When I was living in Montreal fall seemed to appear and disappear in the span of a weekend. The leaves would turn, fall, and then there would be snow. I must say, fall lasts forever in this picturesque city, and I could not be happier about it. Not only is day-to-day life a gorgeous experience within the extraordinary colour palette Vancouver’s fall has to offer, there are even more jaw-dropping views waiting to be discovered all over the city. The parks, beaches, mountains, and various neighbourhoods each have a unique and beautiful fall landscape that will make you wish you had a photographic memory, though Instagram probably does the trick.

Vancouver’s summer drew me in, but this seemingly endless fall is closing the deal without question. You cannot imagine how pleased I was that what I believe is arguably everyone’s favourite season goes on forever here. Vancouver continues to unravel pleasant surprises before me, and simply having the privilege to exist within this indescribable natural artistry is the greatest of all. I’ve always felt as if I needed to choose between the hustle and bustle of a big city or the beauty and charm of a small town, but folks, I was wrong.
