As much as it hurts to say adieu to summer, it’s almost time to start thinking about the splendour of autumnal leaves and darkening days. And, there are a host of events in the fall to start getting excited about as the weather begins to shift.

One of the grandest and most delicious evenings in the city is returning once again. Get set for the Vancouver Aquarium’s lavish Toast to the Coast, now in its eleventh incarnation. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Toast to the Coast takes place the evening of Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Vancouver Aquarium, bringing together Ocean Wise restaurants, BC wineries, and guests all set to eat, sip, mingle, as well as celebrate sustainable seafood.

After hours, guests have the opportunity to nibble on gourmet creations from some of the top restaurants in town, including ARC Restaurant, Fanny Bay Oysters, Homer St. Café and Bar, and The RawBar at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Sweets from establishments like Soirette will also be served.

The various restaurants have food stations located throughout the Aquarium, inviting you to roam leisurely from bite to bite. Some of the canapés from last year included albacore tuna tartare with kaiso seaweed and northern lingcod croquettes.

There is also plenty of vino (and other beverages) to pair with the sustainable food offerings. Local craft breweries, as well as wineries and distilleries are in attendance. Establishments that took part last year included Red Truck Beer Company, Blasted Church Vineyards, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, and Poplar Grove Winery.

One of the best parts of the evenings is touring the Aquarium’s many spectacular galleries and posing in front of jellyfish, clownfish, and more.

In addition, the evening consists of a silent auction, whereby guests can bid for a wide array of prizes (eg last year there was a getaway to Whistler Blackcomb with lift tickets and accommodation). Live musical entertainment gets attendees dancing into the night.

This elegant soirée is a lovely evening out. Even better, all proceeds go towards the Aquarium’s education, research, and conservation initiatives. The 2016 Toast to the Coat raised over $160,000, making the event truly a success.

Tickets are $150 per person, with a VIP experience option ($1,500, minimum 8 guests). Further info and tickets can be found on-line. The event sells out, so don’t delay!
