Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) Fall Series is Online and In-Person Starting November 12

Each November the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) showcases outdoor films in their Fall Film Series. In 2021, they are offering six separate programs as online and in-person events.

For the first time since early 2020, the VIMFF is offering in-person shows. Tickets are $20 per show. All six shows are also available to stream online between November 13 and December 12 for just $17 per show. You can also buy an Online Fall Series Pass for $50 that lets you stream all six shows.

Snowsports Show 1

Friday, November 12 at 7:30 pm at the Kay Meek Arts Centre in West Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

Watch five ski-focused films including the hilarious short Freeride Skiing at Home, shot indoors during the early days of the pandemic. This show also includes the world premiere of Spirit of the Peaks about an indigenous Hunkpapa Lakota skier, and the Canadian premiere of Ups & Downs, a film about navigating mental health through ski touring.

Coextinction

Saturday, November 13 at 7:30 pm at the Kay Meek Arts Centre in West Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

This feature-length film highlights the fight to save the Southern Resident Killer Whales, an endangered species with a population of just 73 left in the wild. After the screening, the filmmakers and characters from the film will speak about the cause and take questions from the audience.

Torn

Tuesday, November 16 at 7:30 pm at the Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

Torn is the story of the Lowe-Anker family. Max Lowe, the son of renowned mountaineer Alex Lowe examines the effect of his father’s life and death on his family. It’s an intimately personal journey to Shishapangma, a peak in the Himalayas.

Mountain Sports Show

Wednesday, November 17 at 7:30 pm at BREWHALL in Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

This show includes eight exciting films about whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, surfing, and highlining. Locals will love The Outlaw Sport, about the origins of Vancouver’s North Shore mountain bike trails.

Climbing Show

Friday, November 19 at 7:30 pm at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

This program showcases four epic climbing films featuring professional and upcoming climbers. Vancouverite Alannah Yip will also give a presentation about her experiences at the 2020 Olympic games, the first to feature climbing.

Snowsports Sport 2

Saturday, November 20 at 7:30 pm at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver or streaming online between November 12 and December 12

Get stoked for ski season with five snowsports films. The program includes the BC premiere of La Liste: Everything or Nothing, and the world premieres of Riding Red and Testing Grounds.
