Things to Do on Family Day Weekend in 2025

Celebrate Family Day weekend (February 15 to 17) with the ones you love. From arts festivals to outdoor activities, there are lots of events for all ages happening across Vancouver.
Big Bang Festival
Head to the Roundhouse Community Centre on February 16 for the Big Bang Festival. The event includes free kid-friendly activities like face painting and a bounce house. You can also buy tickets to three music rooms to participate in immersive and interactive mini-concerts by local performers.
Just for Laughs Vancouver Comedy Festival
The Just for Laughs Vancouver Comedy Festival runs from February 13 to 23 so you can enjoy shows on Family Day long weekend. Grownups have dozens of acts to choose from at venues across the city. If you've got little ones, get tickets to the Family Comedy Stage event at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on February 15th. Presented by the Vancouver Civic Theatres in partnership with the Vancouver Public Library, the whole family can enjoy live comedy as well as a "Joke Factory" creation station where kids can make their own comic strips, joke books, and buttons.
Early Music Vancouver LUMEN Festival Concert Series
To brighten up the dark days of winter, Early Music Vancouver has organized the LUMEN Festival over the Family Day long weekend. The festival includes three concerts: VOCES8, an English a cappella octet will be performing at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Friday, February 14. On Saturday, February 15 you can enjoy a performance by German soprano Dorothee Mields and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church. The festival finishes on Sunday, February 16 at Pacific Spirit United Church with a concert from soprano Perrine Devillers accompanied by Ariel Abramovich on the vihuela, an instrument from the Iberian peninsula.
Lunar Fest
Lunarfest celebrates the diversity of Canada and brings people of all backgrounds together to celebrate Asian arts and culture around the time of Lunar New Year. This year's festivities include events on Family Day long weekend. Head to Granville Island for an artist market, craft making, dumplings, and games on February 15, 16, and 17.
Vancouver Maritime Museum
The Vancouver Maritime Museum has free admission all day on Family Day (February 17), although donations are welcome. In addition to their regular exhibits, they will also have lots of activities for kids including hourly storytelling sessions, singers, stilt walkers, and a visit from the Canadian Coast Guard.
Grouse Mountain
Take the kids to Grouse Mountain this Family Day long weekend. On February 15th, 16th, and 17th, mountain admission tickets and lift tickets are free for kids 12 and under. As usual, they have skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and ice skating. They have also lots of child-friendly events running all weekend including a wildlife learning station, owl talks, crafts, and movies. On Sunday night you can enjoy a live DJ on the mountaintop skating pond followed by fireworks at 7 pm.
Fraser River Discovery Centre
Visit the Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster to enjoy their Love is in the Air event on February 15th, 16th, and 17th. You'll learn about the different ways that animals express affection and build bonds. You can listen to the mating calls of different animals, do crafts, attend a storytime, and more. Admission is charged on February 15th and 16th, but admission is free on February 17th for Family Day.
Cypress Mountain
Head up to Cypress Mountain for some fun in the snow. You can go downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing or tubing. They will have balloon animals and face painting all weekend long inside the Cypress Creek Lodge. Head to the Hollyburn Lodge on Saturday night for live music. On Sunday evening, enjoy fireworks on the patio at 7 pm.
Burnaby Village Museum
Explore the Love farmhouse, which dates back to 1893 as part of Burnaby Village Museum's Family Day program. You can pre-register for a free tour of the farmhouse with a museum interpreter along with kid-friendly crafts and games.
Love Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
You can enjoy Capilano Suspension Bridge's Love Lights event on Family Day weekend - it runs until February 23rd. The entire park including the 450-foot-long suspension bridge is decorated with colourful lights and Valentine's-themed decor. They also have live music and seasonal treats like dark chocolate molten cake.
Richmond Children's Arts Festival
The Richmond Children's Arts Festival has lots of hands-on fun for kids. They've got performances, readings, workshops, and lots more. Some activities require advance registration and fees, but they also have free performances and drop-in workshops. Head to the Richmond Cultural Centre/Annex on Monday, February 17th to check it out.
