How to Celebrate the End of Ski Season in Vancouver
As the weather warms up and the snow melts, it’s time to say goodbye to winter. But with these fun events, ski season in Vancouver goes out with a bang, not a whimper.
Nordic Springfest at Cypress Mountain – March 26
Celebrate the end of cross-country ski season at Cypress Mountain’s Hollyburn Nordic Ski Area with a day of festivities at Nordic Springfest. The event includes a pancake breakfast, relay races, mini-games, and live music. The highlight is the famous dummy jump event, which sees competitors hurtling custom-built dummies downhill on skis, hoping they can stay intact.
Ski Ballet and Retro Day at Mount Seymour – April 1
Head to Mount Seymour on April 1st between noon and 3 pm to watch the ski ballet competition. Competitors in this throw-back sport have 90 seconds to bust out their best moves, set to a song of their choice. There are bonus points for retro costumes too! Spectators can enjoy a barbecue and party vibes throughout the vent.
While the theme is silly, the prizes are not. Winners in nine age and gender categories get a 2023/2024 seasons pass! Register for the competition here, then start practicing that killer choreo. Both skiers and snowboarders can compete.
Mount Seymour Puddle Party – April 8
Ski season at Mount Seymour ends with a splash at the annual Puddle Party. This year’s event takes place on April 8 from noon to 3 pm. Participants ski down the slope into a pond, attempting to remain upright as they water-ski across!
There are prizes for best costume, best splash, best trick, and best effort as well as a kids category. Register to participate on the Mount Seymour website starting on March 24. And if you don’t want to get wet, watching the action is just as fun.
Slush Cup at Whistler Mountain – April 16
This year’s Whistler World Ski and Snowboard Festival runs from April 10 to 16. The festival closes with a fan-favourite event, the Slush Cup. Skiers send it across a slushy pond, with many attempting tricks along the way. There are prizes for best costume, best trick, best wipe-out, and more.
