East Vancouver has really embraced the craft beer scene, earning it the nickname “Yeast Van.” This 1.8 km-long self-guided brewery tour visits five independent breweries in the Clark Drive and Venables area. Since much of it is on the Adanac bike route, it’s a great tour to do by bike or on foot.

Biking Note: This bike route uses bike lanes and quiet streets where possible, but it does involve a little bit of riding on busy streets. Be careful. Use this link for turn-by-turn directions on Google maps.

1st Stop: Strange Fellows Brewing

Start your self-guided brewery tour at Strange Fellows Brewing.

This East Vancouver brewery is all about celebrating the strange and extraordinary. They are known for their sour and barrel-aged beers, but you can also find ales, stouts, traditional Belgian beers, and lots of seasonal options. Stop into their busy taproom to sample the beer along with snacks and sandwiches. They also host lots of fun events like art shows.

2nd Stop: Luppolo Brewing Co.

To get to your next stop, head north on Clark Drive for half a block, then go left on Charles Street. Turn right on Vernon Drive, then carefully go left on Venables. Luppolo Brewing Co. is on your right half a block later.

The word “luppolo” means hops in Italian since Luppolo Brewing Co. wanted to honour the Italian heritage of their owners. They make classic ales and lagers as well as more experimental offerings like Tart Wild Ale with Blackberries and Limoncello Sour Weisse. In keeping with the theme, they also have incredible Italian food including house-made pies from Mordimi Pizza who share their space.

3rd Stop: Off the Rail Brewing

Your next stop is just a few minutes away. Head west on Venables, then turn right on Glen Drive. Go right on Union, left on Vernon, then right on Adanac. Off the Rail Brewing is on your left just after Clark Drive.

The beers at Off the Rail Brewing are influenced by traditional European and North American styles like English ales, German lagers, and American IPAs. Their tasting room features 15 taps including three nitro taps. They also have snacks if you’re feeling peckish.

4th Stop: Bomber Brewing

The fourth stop on this Clark Drive brewery tour is just down the block to the east.

Bomber Brewing began as the dream of three friends and rec hockey teammates. They’ve been open since 2014, serving unpretentious, easy-drinking beers on the Adanac bike route. Their Parklife Tart Passionfruit Ale is a favourite with regulars. They also have a Taqueria food truck on-site serving up six types of tacos as well as quesadillas, chips, salsa, and guac.

The final stop is just a few blocks away. Head east on Adanac, then turn right on Commerical Drive. Turn right again on Venables to arrive at East Van Brewing.

The huge tasting room at East Van Brewing is a great place to hang out. They also have a curbside patio. Their 12 taps give you lots to choose from including rotating seasonal beers and classics like Kickstart Pale Ale or The Jive Hazy Ale. Salty’s Lobster Shack food truck is on-site with lobster and crab rolls, lobster bisque, grilled cheese, and mac & cheese.
