Episode summary
[WARNING—This page contains spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2]
In The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4, Ellie and Dina arrive in Seattle and uncover the ongoing war between the W.L.F. and the Seraphites. Filming moves through the city of Vancouver and hops into Nanaimo.
The opening of the episode introduces us to a new player, Isaac—a former FEDRA soldier who is now a key player in the W.L.F.’s fight against the Seraphites. Meanwhile, Ellie and Dina arrive in Seattle following signs of the W.L.F. in their search for Abby. In a tender moment, Ellie gives Dina an acoustic performance of “Take On Me” by A-ha. This short music shop respite doesn’t last long however as the pair comes face-to-face with the W.L.F. for the first time. They are forced to flee into a nearby subway station.
Pursuing Ellie and Dina into the subway station, the W.L.F. inadvertently attracts the attention of some infected. The situation quickly escalates and in an intense moment Ellie protects Dina by allowing an infected to bite her arm. Escaping the horde, the two take refuge in an abandoned theatre where Dina pulls a gun on Ellie—she doesn’t know Ellie is immune and saw her get bit. Ellie is able to deescalate the situation and, overcome with relief, Dina reveals that she’s pregnant. The episode ends with Ellie and Dina overhearing a radio conversation that reveals the location of Abby—deep inside an area active with combat between the Seraphites and W.L.F.

Strathcona, East Vancouver
The opening scene of this episode where we see Isaac turn on FEDRA was shot in Vancouver’s East Side. East Van is a neighbourhood steeped in culture, creativity, and community. With iconic heritage buildings on every block, this historic area of Vancouver is a perfect stand-in for suburban Seattle. This particular scene was filmed in Strathcona, one of Vancouver’s oldest residential areas and a cornerstone of East Van’s character.
The 500 block of East Georgia Street was completely shut down for filming and dressed with dirt, vegetation, and broken down vehicles. They even brought in a schoolbus to block the middle of the street. While you’re in the area, stop for a bite at Finch’s Teahouse, mere steps away from this filming location and known for its cozy atmosphere and famously loaded baguette sandwiches. While you’re on this side of town, venture further into East Van and explore Commercial Drive, another renowned part of the neighbourhood known for its eclectic shops, delicious food and strong sense of community.
Oceanic Plaza
Arriving in Seattle, Ellie and Dina search for medical supplies in an abandoned pharmacy, the exterior shots of which are played by the Oceanic Plaza building, located at 1066 West Hastings Street, between Burrard and Thurlow Street in Vancouver’s financial district. The pharmacy itself is actually Colourtime Printing, a local print shop tucked at the base of the office buildings, cleverly transformed for the show. This office tower sits right on the edge of downtown, where the city’s business core meets the scenic Coal Harbour waterfront.
This public plaza is a great stop to add to your itinerary if you're trying to hit all The Last of Us season 2 filming locations in Vancouver. This area is known for its shining glass skyscrapers, busy streets, and stunning natural views nearby. Just a few blocks away you can take a stroll along the seawall—a popular path that takes you past marinas, public art, and some of Vancouver’s most scenic restaurant patios. For a bite with a view, grab a seat at Cardero’s by the water or unwind at Cactus Club’s Coal Harbour location—both perfect spots to take in the city’s signature sea-to-sky scenery.
SkyTrain Cars
The intense subway chase scene where Ellie and Dina were forced into a train car was filmed inside old Mark I SkyTrain cars—Vancouver’s original rapid transit vehicles from the 1980s and '90s. These iconic cars, with their blue and red-striped exteriors, are slowly being phased out as the new Mark V trains roll in, but you can still catch a ride in one of them today.
Vancouver’s SkyTrain system stretches across the region, connecting downtown Vancouver to bustling neighborhoods like Mount Pleasant, Commercial Drive, and South Cambie, before extending further into Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, and even YVR Airport. The SkyTrain is one of the most convenient and quickest ways to journey through the city and see every filming location from the show.
Nanaimo
The Capitol Hill section of Seattle where Ellie and Dina find the tank is actually Nanaimo. This scenic port town, just a short ferry ride from Vancouver, is located about 100km north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Visitors can reach Nanaimo from Vancouver's downtown marina in just 70 minutes aboard the Hullo ferry, making it an easy and scenic day trip. The birthplace of the world famous Nanaimo bar, the city is also known for its sandy beaches, historic downtown, and craft breweries.
This isn’t Nanaimo’s first time as a shooting location. You might have seen the city before in Godzilla or Man of Steel. If you want to see this filming location, just head to Commercial St. in Nanaimo’s downtown where you’ll recognize lots of buildings from this episode. While you’re there check out the Nanaimo Bar Trail, a self-guided taste testing tour that lets you try every variation of the Nanaimo-original treat.
