Yep. It’s a thing! Around the globe, fans of the pearl-producing mollusk gather to enjoy them in their favourite oyster bars on this special day. In Vancouver, we never need an annual reason to raise a glass (or in this case a shell) to our much-loved seafood, but here are some local hotspots offering up special deals and dishes, just for International Oyster Day.

Fanny Bay Oyster Bar, new on Cambie Street, are doing oyster specials and donating 10 per cent of restaurant sales to the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program. Oysters Three Ways (casino, fried and Rockefeller; $12); Angels on Horseback (bacon-wrapped oysters on crostini; wilted spinach, $12); plus $1 Fanny Bay oysters, half-price Pan-Fried Oysters and $5 BRB Fanny Bay Oyster Stout on tap. fannybayoysters.com
