Still not sure what you’re doing this New Year’s Eve in Vancouver? We know somewhere that will help you end the night with a BANG! For the second year in a row, Vancouver will be offering a free, public New Year’s Eve celebration in the heart of downtown that concludes with a huge fireworks display at midnight.

Featuring live music, over 20 food trucks, an early family fireworks display, and lots of excitement, Concord’s New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31, 2016 is the best way to ring in 2017.

Last year’s inaugural event attracted over 80,000 people from all over Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, making it Canada’s largest New Year’s Eve event. This year, the party will be even better than before with nearly six hours of free, family-friendly performances by The New Pornographers, Wintersleep, Crystal Shawanda and more.

If you’re only interested in the fireworks, they will begin after the official countdown to midnight marking the New Year. If you didn’t get a chance to check out the fireworks last year, a word of warning: it gets busy.

Make sure you can actually see the fireworks (unlike some people *cough*me*cough*) who missed them last year after getting stuck behind the convention centre. Here are a few good places where you can have a better chance at a view for the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Vancouver.

The most optimal locations for viewing the fireworks include:

  • Vancouver Convention Centre East Plaza
  • Coal Harbour Seawall
  • Stanley Park Seawall facing Coal Harbour between the Rowing Club and 9 O’Clock Gun

Important: Please note the fireworks are not viewable from English Bay and Kitsilano

If you’re planning on attending the NYE Vancouver celebrations, remember that from 5:00 pm on December 31 to 5:00 am on January 1, TransLink will be offering free public transit all across the city.
