Vancouver is Raising the Game in Top Tier Sporting Events
Being the active and sporty city Vancouver is, it’s only fitting for the city to host a diverse portfolio of sporting events. Vancouver’s inspiring natural environment – from open fields to mountaintops overlooking a cosmopolitan city, combined with a competitive spirit, makes Vancouver the ideal home for athletes and spectators alike.
Vancouver will be recognized as one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. This is the first time the FIFA Men’s World Cup matches will be played on Canadian soil, putting the global spotlight on BC to not only inspire the next generation of players, but to also support and boost our tourism and hospitality sectors. This World Cup will be the largest ever held, and the first to feature 48 teams playing in 80 matches.
The 6th annual Laver Cup has also declared Vancouver as a host city for the tennis tournament in 2023. Relatively new to the tennis schedule, the Laver Cup is a three-day competition where six of the best players from team Europe, captained by tennis legend Bjorn Borg play against the six leading players from Team World, led by Borg’s rival, John McEnroe. The matches will be held in Rogers Arena, where many other sporting events have and will continue to take place including the World Rugby Sevens and the 2025 Invictus Games.
