This year's Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival returns on March 27th, featuring exciting events showcasing the city's breathtaking cherry trees. Cherry Blossoms, which were once gifted by Japan, now bloom all across Vancouver, adding a pop of pink across our streets, parks, and mountain landscapes.

What Is The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival?

The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual spring celebration marking the city’s cherry trees in full bloom. The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival 2026 runs from March 27 to April 12, featuring a range of culturally and community-focused events that are free or low-cost and suitable for all ages. It’s the perfect way to experience Vancouver in full bloom, with both the city and its people coming to life!

Events:

The Big Picnic (March 28-29)

Soak in the opening cherry blossom weekend in David Lam Park for The Big Picnic right in the center of Yaletown. 100 Akebono cherry trees are set to be in full bloom that weekend, and what better way to experience its beauty than by setting up a blanket and relaxing underneath the blossoms. The picnic celebrates Sakura, embracing the spirit of “no one is a stranger under the cherry blossom tree.” Enjoy live performances, a variety of art activities and workshops, and delicious bites from food trucks.

Blossoms After Dark (March 27-29)

As the sun sets in David Lam Park, get ready for a front-row view of the Blossoms After Dark Festival, where the cherry trees glow with stunning lights. The entire park will be illuminated, so be sure to capture this picturesque moment. As you stroll, you’ll also encounter dancers, live music, food trucks, and the Blossom Lounge, ending the opening weekend on a magical note.

Blossom Block Party (April 4)

The Blossom Block Party is happening this year at the Bentall Centre on the open-air patio, featuring a public disco that’s free for all! No tickets needed, just come ready to dance as a DJ spins tracks all night long.

Sakura Days Japan Fair (April 11-12)

The Sakura Days Japan Fair is happening at VanDusen Botanical Garden, celebrating Japanese culture through art. This year’s fair offers a chance to try delicious Japanese festival food, premium sake, live performances, and a chance to learn more about cultural traditions. VanDusen is also the best spot to stroll through and experience the cherry blossoms, along with magnolias and tulips, all in full colour.

Haiku Invitational (March 1-June 1)

Calling all poets! The Haiku Invitational is an international contest for youth and adult writers to submit their haikus, a traditional Japanese poem in short form. Winners will be featured in Haiku Canada, the Haiku Society of America, and on the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival website. There will also be a celebrity reading of the winning poems at the festival, with Indigenous and Japanese-Canadian performers bringing the words to life through visual pieces.
