There’s nothing quite like enjoying a crisp, refreshing beer on a hot day. Drinking outside is always enjoyable, and with patios filling up faster than a yoga class on a Saturday morning, there’s not too many places to enjoy a cold one under the sun. Until Vancouver liquor laws change and drinking becomes legal on the beach, another social place to enjoy a beer during the summer is at an outdoor festival.

This Saturday, July 30 from 2-8pm, the inaugural CANcity festival will be taking over Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza to bring you the newest Craft Beer & Cider sampling event – with a little twist: everything is coming from a can!

A must-do for any beer or cider lover, CANcity will be showcasing locally crafted beer that has been specially canned just for this event. Attendees will be able to sample any of the beer or cider to get a taste of some of the best breweries in BC.

Amongst the 20 breweries participating in the festival include: Barkerville Brewing (Quesnel, BC), Twin Sails Brewing (Port Moody, BC), Hearthstone Brewing (North Vancouver, BC), Longwood Brewing (Nanaimo, BC) and Category 12 Brewing (Victoria, BC).

Along with the main attraction of sampling delicious beer, guests can enjoy interactive fun and games, beer can art installations, roaming local musicians and some delicious food trucks to enjoy when the drunchies (drunk munchies?) hit.

Tickets to the event are still on sale and cost $25 a person. You’ll also need to buy sampler tickets inside the event for $8.75 for 5 tokens or $17.50 for 10 tokens.

CANcity will be opening up at Queen Elizabeth Plaza in Downtown Vancouver on Saturday, July 30 from 2 – 8pm. A perfect pre-party before the huge fireworks show that will kick off at 10pm. You’ll have just enough time to make your way over to English Bay to enjoy the light show!
