Get set for some adult fun with acclaimed burlesque musical Shine this July!
A musical theatre romp that has been called a “stellar example of the new burlesque” (by Vancouver theatre critic Colin Thomas) is returning to Vancouver.
Shine: A Burlesque Musical is an original production about the fight to save an old theatre. With Broadway-calibre songs and charismatic talent, the show is bringing some adult fun and sexy sizzle to Vancouver’s theatre scene this summer.
First produced in Vancouver in 2009 as part of the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, Shine: A Burlesque Musical features songs by The Wet Spots and a script by that Vancouver-based duo’s Cass King, along with local writer Sam Dulmage.
King also stars in the production, and Thomas had this to say about her performance in the 2009 run: “… King holds the evening together. The woman has charisma and timing to burn.” Other cast members in the remount include Theo Budd, Frankie Cottrell, Allison Fligg, Danielle Lemon, Diva Fandango (who also directs), Sasja Smolders and Seth Gordon Little.
The show has also played Seattle and, in 2010, the New York Fringe Festival, where reviewers for Time Out New York said, “Hands down more goosebumps per minute than any other show! It’s ‘RENT’ for our generation. The music is Broadway caliber. If it doesn’t go on to a longer run, there is no God.”
Shine: A Burlesque Musical runs at the WISE Hall (1882 Adanac St.) from July 6-16. Watch a preview video here. For more info visit the Shine: A Burlesque Musical website.
