National Geographic Explorers Share Tales of Adventure at The Orpheum Theatre

Hunting for dinosaur bones in North Africa, deep-diving beneath Arctic ice, snapping footage of the Earth from outside the International Space Station… These are merely a few of the enthralling adventures led by National Geographic contributors – and four of them will be sharing their tales at The Orpheum Theatre.

National Geographic Live, a touring speaker series, and Vancouver Civic Theatres have paired up to present a series of four educational – and thoroughly captivating – shows starring National Geographic explorers, photographers and writers. Dates have been scheduled for October 10, 2018, and February 27, March 12 and May 7, 2019.

Featured speakers are:

• Nizar Ibrahim, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and paleontologist, who has unearthed dinosaur bones and discovered fossil footprints – as well as a new species of flying reptile – in the deserts of North Africa

• Steve Winter, a wildlife photographer specializing in big cats who has been named BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and BBC Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year, among other honours

• Brian Skerry, a National Geographic Photography Fellow and underwater photographer who dives in extreme conditions – including beneath Arctic ice and in predator-infested waters – to capture images that draw awareness to marine conservation

• Terry Virts, NASA astronaut and National Geographic author, who spent 200 consecutive days in space as commander of the International Space Station – the longest continuous space mission of any NASA astronaut – and captured breathtaking photos of Earth, some of which were featured in the 2016 IMAX film A Beautiful Planet
