Since 1971, the BC Home + Garden Show has been a popular annual event, featuring real advice, real inspiration, and real experts sharing tips, resources, and supplies for every home improvement project imaginable. Whether you have a budget to spend, or are just there to browse, the home show has something to suit the interests of guests of all ages – including kids! Here are some kid-friendly highlights to check out at this year’s show.

Smell the flowers as you stroll through the Feature Gardens.

Whether you live in a small apartment in the city, or a on a sweeping landscape in the country, you’ll appreciate the space-saving gardens displayed along 3,000 square feet of space. Browse through the displays, or pop in for a session at the Vancouver Sun Gardeners’ School, where you can dig in to the world of gardening – before the official arrival of Spring.

Go ‘back to the future’ with a tour of the TELUS Future Home display.

Explore the futuristic mock-home by TELUS, and see what life will be like when facial recognition technology replaces house keys, interaction with appliances is done through the touch of a device, and a kitchen countertop helps count calories and display recipes as you cook!

Get crafty – because you’re never too young to DIY.

Learn how to bundle together a beautiful bouquet of flowers, learn the age-old art of writing in calligraphy, or learn how to stitch something together skillfully in one of the interactive workshops put on by local vendors who will be displaying their crafts and teaching their skills at the show during the Workshop Series.

Shop ’til you drop at the Urban Market by Portobello West.

Check out the fashion and art market featuring locally-made keepsakes for the whole family to enjoy. Get a preview of the list of participating vendors ahead of time, or just peruse the displays and pick out something to bring home to commemorate your visit to Vancouver while you’re there.
