It’s a Party for the Planet on Earth Day in Vancouver!
On Saturday, April 22, 2017 we celebrate Earth Day, the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people every year. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events take place in more than 190 countries around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
So, this coming Earth Day – take a few seconds to yourself in some nature and reflect on how great it is to be living on earth these days! Because, you never know when we’ll all be trapped on Mars…
In Vancouver, there are several celebrations in honour of the Earth, including a parade and an Adults Night at Science World. Check out a few of the Earth Day themed events below!

Science World After Dark – Earth Day Edition
After the kids leave for the day, adults take over! On Friday, April 21 you’re invited to explore Science World at sunset and enjoy its urban gardens, model ecosystem and resident chickens.
For Earth Day, you’re also able to get an exclusive sneak preview of the OMNIMAX® film, A Beautiful Planet. This film features stunning footage of our magnificent blue planet captured by the astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

7th Annual Earth Day Parade & Festival
Since 2011, Vancouverites have flocked to Commercial Drive each April for the Annual Earth Day Celebration. This youth-driven celebration of climate action includes music, entertainment, activities, special guests, creative art and more. It’s a free event and is very family-friendly with a focus on conservation and the environment. The parade starts at Commercial & Broadway, finishing at Grandview Park where the festival is held.

Party for the Planet in Surrey
A short drive or skytrain away from Downtown Vancouver will take you to BC’s largest celebration of Earth Day in Vancouver. On Saturday, April 22 in Surrey, the party will include a bike powered smoothie stop (blend your own smoothie using a bike!), tree and plant sale, road hockey, a rock climbing wall, food & drink, and fun photo booths. There will also be performances by Shawn Hook, Willa, The Purple Pirate, and a 16 year old professional yo-yo competitor.
