For nine years, Talent Time has been giving a home to stray talent. In the fine old tradition of vaudeville and the Carol Burnett Show, the monthly live variety show has hosted comedians, singers, clowns, jugglers – you name it.

For its upcoming ninth-year celebration, Thursday Feb. 2, Talent Time is doing something it hasn’t done before – bringing a hot tub onto its stage.

Held at the Rio Theatre (1660 E. Broadway) on the first Thursday of each month, Talent Time is the brainchild of creator/local entertainer Paul Anthony. Anthony also hosts the show, along with comedian Ryan Beil.

For the ninth anniversary show, acts include 9-year-old dancer Nolan Dubluc; indoor kite flyer Tristan Underwood; Ivan Decker (recently named “funniest comedian in Canada under 30”); cash giveaways; and a house band.

In a press release, Anthony states that the show will be “as unpredictable as it is every month. In January, while in the middle of the worst winter in years, we held an Anti-SAD Beach Party and offered free spray tans. We want to continue to reward our community for all the years of support. This time audience members can choose to watch the show from the luxurious hot tub provided by Vantage Pools & Spas.”

Some of the performances will take place in the hot tub, while at other times audience members will have a chance to have a soak.

Tickets are $12 (or $10 online), doors are at 7 p.m. and the show is from 8 – 10. Online tickets can be purchased riotheatre.ca. 19+ on the floor, all ages in the balcony.
