A dance performance that takes inspiration from the act of faceting gemstones is part in Family FUSE Weekend March 25-26 at the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street).

The popular event is aimed at bringing families together to celebrate art. Besides activities for the kids, event-goers will be able to check out the gallery’s spring exhibitions, including Susan Point: Spindle Whorl, Pacific Crossings: Hong Kong Artists in Vancouver, Howie Tsui: Retainers of Anarchy, We Come to Witness: Sonny Assu in Dialogue with Emily Carr and Vancouver Special: Ambivalent Pleasures.

Other attractions include Semi-Precious, a roving dance performance choreographed by Justine Chambers and performed by four dancers; Materials of the World, which lets budding artists experiment with paint, clay and fabric; an interactive installation in which participants’ art is transformed into live digital projections and sound; a workshop in which FUSE-goers help create large-format Buddha boards (drawing with water); and another workshop for creating a mix-media sewn collage inspired by the work of Vancouver-based multi-media artist Mark DeLong in Vancouver Special: Ambivalent Pleasures.

In addition, grown-ups and kids can enjoy the exhibitions with a team of Art Agents, and explore hands-on art-making activities with art educators in the Making Place space.

The hours of Family FUSE Weekend are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. March 25 – 26. It’s free for children aged 12 and under when accompanied by an adult, and for Gallery Members. Otherwise, regular adult admission rates apply.
