ARGENTINA’S CHE MALAMBO THRILL WITH FIERY FOOTWORK, PERCUSSION AND A DELICIOUS HINT OF DANGER

Combine lightning-fast footwork and the smoldering intensity of tango, with the boldness of the South American gaucho (cowboy), and you get Che Malambo! The all-male Argentinian troupe are set to perform a breathtaking new program for one-night only: April 11, 2018 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

In this exhilarating evening, audiences will encounter elite artists trained in the 17th century tradition of malambo, a style of competitive dueling that originated with gauchos of the Pampas region of Argentina. Over its evolution, malambo has developed to include zapateo, a dance style characterized by breakneck footwork inspired by the galloping of horse hooves. Dancers perform with bravado in the spirit of the gaucho as it tosses its whirling boleadoras (percussive lasso). It’s a heart-pumping showcase of pure passion and intense physicality!

Founded by renowned French choreographer Gilles Brinas, Che Malambo came into the international spotlight in 2015. Its 14 members have since enjoyed successful tours overseas, and across North America. Before coming to Vancouver, they will stop in Calgary as part of a busy travel schedule including stops in Malaysia, Belgium, Spain, and Ukraine.
