Stephen Campanelli
Stephen Campanelli piqued the interest of Hollywood’s top directors as the first person in the biz to combine Steadicam and “A” camera operating – and, in doing so, he paved the way for an entirely new perspective of filmmaking.
Though Stephen has shot movies with many notable directors, he has worked the most with his boyhood idol Clint Eastwood. He first joined Eastwood as camera operator for Bridges of Madison County, and continued with Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, Gran Torino and others. During these productions he became Eastwood’s preferred cameraman, and was entrusted with crucial directorial decisions… so naturally, he took the leap into directing.
Stephen has now directed three motion pictures – Momentum, Rio Heat and Indian Horse – and, throughout his 30-plus years as a camera operator, worked on more than 60 motion pictures. He has been voted Best Camera Operator of the Year, and was honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Society of Camera Operators.
Stephen spends much of his professional and personal time in Vancouver, and has become intimately acquainted with the city and its hidden delights. His must-do’s for visitors include:
