Get Outside: 5 Blossoming Ways to Celebrate Spring in Vancouver

Spring is HERE — and we are all about in Vancouver. The weather has gotten warmer, the cherry blossoms are out, and there’s no excuse for not getting outside. (Not even the possibility of rain!) Here are some ways to get outside and celebrate spring in the city!

Think pink — do it all
Not that you could miss the beautiful hues of pink of the sakura trees, but it’s cherry blossom season, and the 13th Annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival blooms April 4-28! With 43,000 trees blooming in the city, there is no shortage of Instagram-worthy elements or options for a date, family activities, or a bit of solitude.

Hop on a bike
While Vancouver is beautiful to bike around all throughout spring/summer, it’s an especially beautiful time to be cycling through the parks and along the seawall. If you don’t have your bike with you, rentals are available via our bike share program, Mobi, or at any of these rental shops. And should you be wanting to be amongst other cycle minded friends, Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s Bike the Blossoms is a free event coming up on April 27th.
Get your step on
Rain or shine, you cannot go wrong getting your step on during cherry blossom season. I’ve talked about this on many occasions, but walking is really the best way to see Vancouver. It gets you moving and photo ops are even more in abundance — so if you’re a shutterbug, you’re all set! Here are some scenic all-season strolls you can take, and if you’re looking for a guided tour amongst the blossoms, check out Tree Talks & Walks.

Go on a picnic adventure
Our cups runneth over with gorgeous park spaces and beaches in the city, and the quaintest way to enjoy lunch outside is to make a picnic of it. Grab a blanket, ask your hotel concierge about procuring a picnic basket full of tasty treats, and settle down to take in the views.

Schedule a date night
It’s possibly not yet warm enough to give up the fleecy blankets some restaurants thoughtfully provide on their patios, but some of said restaurants have created blossom themed menus to celebrate the sakuras. Minami in Yaletown and its sister restaurant Miku in Coal Harbour are each offering dinner courses, desserts, and refreshing cocktails on their menu from April 8-21. Be sure to make a reservation!
