If you’re single, Valentine’s Day can be a bit of a drag. Love is in the air everywhere, except in your general vicinity…

There are seemingly endless events to do on Valentine’s Day if you have a partner. But, if you’re single and proud, there are still a lot of fun things to do this Valentine’s Day without a date. Take a break from Tinder for a while and enjoy a night celebrating you!

Head to the People’s Prom for a gender-bending good time

Hosted on Friday, February 14th, the People’s Prom is an annual event that is radical, community-oriented, and all-inclusive. With great music, a fun opportunity to wear your funkiest outfits, and a single-friendly event, the People’s Prom in East Vancouver is one popular event.

It’s the prom you never had in high school! Make sure you buy your tickets soon because this event has the potential to sell out. Best of all, you don’t need a date for this dance party, just a good attitude and a party outfit.

Laugh away your pain

If you’re feeling especially down this Valentine’s Day, what better way to perk yourself up then by enjoying some world-class comedy? The Just for Laughs Northwest Comedy Festival is currently running in Vancouver and there are some amazing acts that still have tickets available. This weekend boasts Maria Bamford, Margaret Cho, and some excellent improv shows at the Vogue Theatre and the Orpheum.

No matter your comedy style, there’s something for everyone. You know there will also be a few choice words about good ol’ v-day.

Meet a new special friend (or four) at speed dating

Sick of internet dating? Try it out in real life with a speed dating challenge! Try Speed Dating @ Grain Tasting Bar. Prefer to make a friend connection? There’s such thing as “speed friending” at the Portside Pub on Valentine’s Day that may connect you with the new adventure buddy you’ve been searching for.

Order a heart-shaped pizza for yourself

Do you need any more excuse to eat pizza? Get into the spirit on Friday with Boston Pizza’s annual heart-shaped pizza fundraiser. Very fitting if pizza is the only thing you love these days.

Best of all, purchasing a pizza supports the Foundation Future Prospects program, which helps youth across the country benefit from positive role models and mentoring programs!

Eat the pizza guilt-free and you don’t even have to worry about sharing your slices with anybody else!

Literally Netflix and chill

Who needs a Valentine’s Day event when you’re single? On Friday, curl up in your comfiest pyjamas and crack open some good beverages to enjoy in front of some good ol’ Netflix. Guess what – you have full control of what you’re watching. Cheesy romantic comedies? Do it. Flipping between C-grade reality TV shows all night? Your decision! Putting on a movie and then staring at your phone throughout the whole thing? Are you me?
