Where: Kitsilano
When: July
Hours: 11 am to 9 pm
Year started: 2011
Join Vancouver's largest free music and arts festival
Every July, traffic disappears from West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano. Live music fills the street from multiple stages. People wander between food trucks, street performers, market stalls, and neighbourhood shops. For one day, the Khatsahlano Street Party transforms West 4th Avenue into a massive outdoor celebration.
Stroll from stage to stage and let the day unfold at your own pace. Walk one way and you'll hear surf-inspired indie rock or grunge. Head to another stage and you'll find post-punk or glam-pop. Along the way, discover unique creations from local makers, and cheer on kids competing in a donut-eating contest.
The Khatsahlano Street Party is a Vancouver event created by the Kitsilano West 4th Avenue Business Association in 2011. With no gates or admission fees, you can join from any cross street along West 4th Avenue between Burrard and Macdonald Streets. Come for an hour or stay all day, then walk to Kitsilano Beach to watch the sunset.

Where in Vancouver is the Khatsahlano Street Festival?
The Khatsahlano Street Party takes place on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, a neighbourhood known for its beachside lifestyle and walkable, village-like atmosphere. The celebration stretches ten blocks from Burrard to Macdonald Streets.
Kitsilano
Kitsilano is located in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
The Khatsahlano Street Party takes its name from Chief X̱ats'alanexw, also known as August Jack Khahtsahlano, a Squamish Nation leader and oral historian whose stories helped preserve the history of his people.
West 4th Avenue
West 4th Avenue is Kitsilano’s main shopping street, home to independent shops, restaurants, and record stores that have shaped the district for decades.
One of the neighborhood's most defining chapters came in the 1960s, when the street became the centre of Vancouver’s countercultural scene, drawing young artists, musicians, and free thinkers. At the time, some outlets called West 4th Avenue Canada’s hippie capital, rivaling Toronto’s Yorkville and San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury.
The hippie era left a lasting mark on the street's character. Today, West 4th Avenue's independent spirit is still visible in its local businesses, creative community, and relaxed atmosphere. That same independent spirit comes to life every July during the Khatsahlano Street Party.

Leave pets at home: Festival organizers ask attendees not to bring dogs or other pets for the safety and comfort of both animals and visitors.
