The Capilano Suspension Bridge sparkles at Christmas

Each winter, Capilano Canyon Lights transforms the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge Park into a glowing wonderland of twinkling lights and forest trails. As one of the most popular Vancouver winter light festivals, it invites visitors to cross the lighted bridge, wander treetop walkways, and soak in the serenity of the rainforest after dark — a must-see among Vancouver’s annual events.

Tips for your holiday lights viewing

  • Book ahead: Purchase tickets online early — popular evenings often sell out.
  • Arrive before sunset: Enjoy the forest in daylight, then watch the Canyon Lights Vancouver BC display come alive at dusk.
  • Dress for the outdoors: Wear warm layers and sturdy footwear for forest paths and bridges.
  • Getting there: Take the free seasonal shuttle from downtown (Canada Place and select hotels) or transit via Lonsdale Quay and the #236 bus.
  • Family-friendly: Kids love the twinkling lights and forest walkways. While strollers aren’t permitted on the suspension bridge or other elevated attractions, there are designated parking areas (at your own risk), and babies can be carried in a front or back carrier. You’ll find plenty of easy trails and photo-worthy spots perfect for exploring together.
  • Sustainability: Energy-efficient LED lighting and wildlife-friendly displays make the Canyon Lights Vancouver a green winter light festival.

What to expect

The suspension bridge glow

image

The iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge — stretching 137 metres across the canyon — becomes the glowing centerpiece of the experience. Thousands of lights trace its length, reflecting on the Capilano River far below, creating one of Vancouver’s most photogenic winter sights.

Treetops Adventure lights

image

High above the forest floor, seven suspension bridges connect towering Douglas firs in a canopy of radiant orbs and stars. This treetop walkway glows with colour and offers breathtaking views of the forest from up to 30 metres above ground.

Cliffwalk and canyon views

image

For a thrill, walk the Cliffwalk’s edge-lit pathways clinging to the rock face. Look down (if you dare) to see the canyon illuminated below, and up to admire the stars glittering through mist and light. It’s one of the most breathtaking features of Christmas at Capilano Suspension Bridge.

The “Arc de Lumina” and forest light art

image

Each year, Canyon Lights Vancouver features new light installations, from shimmering tunnels to floating spheres—transforming the rainforest into an immersive art experience.
