About
The Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra is ushering in the new year with its 22nd Spring Concert, featuring crowd favourite works paired with prominent guest artists. Canadian keyboard giant, Robert Silverman, and the award-winning Vancouver Bach Choir is a combination you do not want to miss.
Robert Silverman is recognized as one of Canada's premiere pianists. With a career that spans over five decades, he commands a wide-ranging repertoire with works by Beethoven, Brahms, List, and Mozart as his personal favourites. Together with the Vancouver Bach Choir, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 80, will be brought to life. Though premiered with disastrous results in Beethoven's time, this work has now become known for its heroic splendour and moving lyricism.
The second half of the program spotlights Orff's Carmina Burana. An impassioned cantata, this large-scale work for orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists enthralls audiences with its rhythmic energy and captivating melodic phrases. The composition begins and ends with a hymn to the goddess Fortuna, reminding us that our lives are subject to the whims of fate and fortune.
