About

The VMO’s upcoming Chamber Orchestra Concert featuring Canada’s very own internationally renowned Eugenia Choi on violin with our resident conductor, Stuart Martin making his first appearance in the chamber orchestra series.

Eugenia has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Hall in Boston, and Nobel Prize hall only to name a few. Described as “a sensational force” (La Republique, France) and “technical virtuoso” (Berliner Morgenpost, Germany), she has performed with orchestras all over the world. She received her Doctorate from the Julliard School of Music, and had served as Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, and now on faculty at New York University. She will be performing Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, one of the most exciting repertoire based off of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Also on the programme will be a new world premiere of a piece inspired by a novel of Eden Robinson “Son of a trickster,” by our composer-in-residence, Aidan Mulldoon Wong. Stuart Martin will lead the orchestra through most of the programme including: David Diamond’s Round for String Orchestra and Albinoni’s Adagio in G-minor. Ken Hsieh will conduct a few short pieces to compliment the performance. This will be the second time the VMO has performed at the Vancouver Playhouse, an intimate theatre that should prove to be a wonderful evening of chamber music making!
