The story of the match

New Zealand’s time to shine

Fans of the All Blacks are expected to travel in numbers for their side’s third appearance at the FIFA World Cup™, hoping they’ll go a step further than their previous group stage exits in 1982 and 2010.
New Zealand’s squad is drawn from around the globe, with players from leagues as diverse as Scotland, Ireland, South Africa and Major League Soccer.

Having recently returned from injury, towering striker Chris Wood will be relied upon to make an impact in the New Zealand attack, but keep an eye out for St. Patrick’s Athletic striker Max Mata, who is capable of conjuring a goal out of nothing.

Will Egypt’s impressive attack turn up?

Egypt and their talismanic attacker Mohamed Salah arrive at the tournament as Africa’s most decorated side, having won the African Cup of Nations a record seven times. Anchored by a strong defensive unit and an explosive attack, they’ll be confident 2026 is the year they can break through at the FIFA World Cup ™.

While much of the focus will be on Salah, New Zealand would be wise not to ignore his strike partner Omar Marmoush, who has built a reputation as a scorer of wonder goals throughout his career. Marmoush plies his trade for Manchester City in England’s Premier League, where he has scored 14 goals in two seasons.

The remainder of Egypt’s squad is mainly drawn from the upper echelon of the Egyptian Premier League. They’ll be a worthy opponent for any team at the tournament.
