Saturday, June 13 | BC Place
Vancouver’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ host city duties kick off at BC Place with the meeting of Australia and Türkiye on Saturday, June 13 at 9pm. Whether you’re visiting Vancouver for the game, or you’re a lucky local ticket holder, it's going to be an exciting day across the city. Here’s everything you need to know.

The story of the match
A Golden Opportunity for the Socceroos
Vancouver will provide a welcoming home base for thousands of Australian fans, who have long been drawn to Vancouver for our mix of nature, culture and cuisine. And, with a six-day gap until Australia takes on the United States in Seattle, there’s plenty of time to explore Vancouver, Whistler and beyond.
This will be the Socceroo’s seventh appearance at the FIFA World Cup™, with their most recent outing in 2022 seeing them narrowly eliminated 2-1 in the round of 16 by eventual tournament champions Argentina. Australia’s experienced squad is drawn from leagues around the world, with young striker Nestory Irankunda expected to lead the line in attack.
Türkiye return to the biggest stage after 24 years
Türkiye arrive in Vancouver for their fourth FIFA World Cup campaign, having previously played in 1950, 1954, and 2002. Their best effort came in 2002, when they lost a tight semi-final 1-0 to eventual champions Brazil, before securing 3rd place with a 3-2 win over South Korea.
While a similar run feels like a long shot in 2026, Türkiye still have several reasons for optimism. Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler arrives at the tournament in fantastic form, backed up by Juventus striker Kenan Yildiz, and Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

Who scored the only World Cup goal ever for Canada?
Alphonso Davies scored the only ever goal recorded by team Canada on the FIFA World Cup™️ stage in 2022, with his header against Croatia in the 2nd match of the group stage assisted by Tajon Buchanen.
