Where to Feast on Delicious Indian Cuisine in Vancouver

Thanks in large part to its vibrant South Asian Community, restaurants in Vancouver are widely known as some of the most diverse and flavourful in the world. From richly spiced northern curries to delicate southern dosas, the city’s Indian cuisine scene offers something for every palate.
You’ve probably heard of Vij’s, the ground-breaking restaurant that combines gourmet Indian food and drink with impeccable service, receiving a Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin Guide for its gastronomic delights. But can you say that you’ve tried every Indian restaurant in Vancouver?
Here are five more amazing Indian restaurants to get you started on your tour of Indian cuisine in Vancouver.
Desi Indian Lounge
Whether you’re craving iconic Indian street foods or elevated classics with a modern twist, Desi Indian Lounge has you covered. This culture-forward spot on the border of Downtown and Yaletown has quickly become a Vancouver favourite since it hit the scene just eight months ago in January 2025.
Especially on one of our oh-so-famous rainy evenings, ducking out of the downpour and into this colourful restaurant will have you feeling like you’ve entered a cozy tropical oasis. Order a hearty Chicken Chettinad with Madras spice and tamarind broth to keep the cozy vibes going. And vegetarians, don’t worry, there are plenty of options for you too, including an unforgettable Kolhapuri Paneer & Mushroom dish.
Finally, a classic Indian-inspired cocktail menu designed with flavours from different Indian provinces, like Gajar Halwa from Punjab, Himalayan salt from Parvati valley, and chai from Mumbai, showcases real authenticity in a glass. Or, order a Mango Lassi Martini if you’re in the mood for something a bit more playful.
East is East, Chai Lounge – Broadway
East is East is the dream of two Afghani siblings whose family moved to India to escape the turmoil of war. They fell in love with Indian cuisine and culture, and brought a dream of celebrating the meeting between East and West through a restaurant with them when they immigrated to Canada. They call it “silk and spice road” food, meaning that it draws upon multiple culinary traditions, including Indian cuisine.
With two locations, their Kits location on Broadway was the first to open and has been a neighbourhood staple for eighteen years. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see that iconic wooden sign above their door.
Featuring live music every single night of the week, a rotating line-up of music from around the world adds the perfect ambience for enjoying your spinach paneer or filled roti roll. As you bask in the embroidered design accents and intimate lighting of the dining area, we recommend ordering the chai feast tasting menu, which comes with three mains, soup, salad, and cold mezze, as well as bolani (flatbread), roti, and both Afghan and basmati rice.
And while you’re there, make sure to order a cup of their signature, expertly made chai. It is a chai lounge, after all!
East is East, Chai Lounge – Main Street
No, you’re not seeing double! There’s that iconic wooden sign above the door again. Rest assured, East is East’s second location on Main Street is just as good as its first. Immerse yourself in history and culture on a plate by ordering the Silk Route Feast, which comes with three main dishes, boulani, naan, and a mix of Afghan and Basmati rice.
Plus, you’ll be dining smack-dab in the centre of one of Vancouver’s hippest neighbourhoods when you give this location a visit, which means you can also check out the Main Street Murals while you’re there.
Or, turn your East Van visit into a longer stay and book an adorable room at the Beautiful Guest House, a bed and breakfast that operates out of a Heritage House built in 1911. Totally hip, totally East Van.
Indian Oven
A real labour of love, Indian Oven is a family-run business on West 4th Ave that celebrates the diversity of Indian cuisine. Featuring stunning flavours from the North all the way to the South, all of their recipes are crafted in-house and prepared using fresh produce.
With tons of appetizers, Tandoori specialties, and loads of options for every protein you might be craving (chicken, lamb, beef and seafood), you might run into the best kind of problem: delicious-food-induced-decision-paralysis.
Okay, maybe we made that term up, but we swear it’s a real thing. If you find yourself in that enviable position, try shaking things up by ordering an item from their “Chinese with an Indian Twist” menu. You won’t regret it.
Plus, vegetarians and gluten-free diners, look no further! Gluten-free roti and over fifteen vegetarian options await you at this Kitsilano staple.
Hungry yet? We’re certainly craving a mango lassi right about now. Go ahead and treat yourself to a feast at one of these Indian restaurants. Your taste buds will thank you.
