Where to watch Superbowl 50 in Vancouver
On Feb. 7, the Carolina Panthers will take on the Denver Broncos at one of the biggest sports events of the year – the Super Bowl. This year’s marks the 50th edition of the football playoff event, which is being held in San Francisco.
NFL fans in Vancouver will be partying it up too, even if they have little skin in the game (the closest NFL team, the Seattle Seahawks, were bumped out of the playoffs by the Panthers on Jan 17). Plus, Coldplay will be hamming it up with Beyoncé for the half-time show. So there’s that.
Here are a few places where you can catch the action and argue the relative merits of the two teams with complete strangers.
A few of the Donnelly Group‘s gastropubs are rolling out the Super Bowl festivities. The Lamplighter (92 Water St.), The Butcher & Bullock (911 W. Pender St.) and the Clough Club (212 Abbott St.) will feature special food and drink menus, features and events. Some of these include a pre-game Happy Hour from 12-3 p.m. and all-you-can-eat barbecued burgers at the Lamplighter and a tailgate-inspired menu, a 50/50 draw and a chance to win “Beer for Year” at the Butcher & Bullock, ture special “tailgating” menus, all-you-can-eat burgers, the chance to win “Beer for a Year.”
For $100 a ticket, the Clough Club offers an exclusive viewing in their heritage space, all food and drink during the day, a brisket carving station & selections of craft beers. Of course, all the pubs mentioned have big HD TV screens. Reservations for any Donnelly Group Super Bowl party can be made by emailing: superbowl@donnellygroup.ca.
Speaking of big screens, it probably doesn’t get any bigger than the Rio Theatre‘s. Admission is free to the licensed East Vancouver cinema (1660 E. Broadway), which will offer drinks, grilled cheese sandwiches and host Shaneo MacLeano.

At Cabana Lounge and Sidecar (1159 Granville St.), tickets are $25 and include an all-you-can-eat tailgate buffet featuring burgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, fries and chili. Also included: squares, 50/50, jersey draws and something called Drinko. Visit clubzone.com for tickets.
At Doolin’s Irish Pub (654 Nelson St.), Sonia Sidu (morning show host for The Peak radio station, and once named one of Vancouver’s Most Eligible Bachelorettes by a local website) hosts the pub’s Annual Super Bowl 50 Up and Down Party 2016. Among the enticements for your Super Bowl 50 dollar are the usual drink specials and tailgate menu, along with games, prizes, and – here’s a twist – bodypainted girls.
Hub Yaletown will debut a new “appy hour” menu, including drink specials like $5 Blue Moon. There’ll be 50/50 tickets and box pools. $20 entry includes beer from Blue Moon and entry to prize draws.
We’re sure there at lots more Super Bowl 50 parties in Vancouver, so stay tuned to this space. We’ll try to add more in the weeks leading up to the big game.
