Tonight – Drake tribute in Vancouver!
Vancouver bands and musicians salute Canada’s biggest hip-hop star tonight (Jan. 21) at the Biltmore Cabaret.
Organizers are calling the evening Started from the Biltmore: Drake Tribute Night (after the Drake song “Started from the Bottom,” natch). Guests include Good For Grapes, Luca Fogale, Kaylee Johnston, BESTiE, Mark Mills, Sarah Jickling and her Good Bad Luck, The Valuables, SO LOKI, and On Planets.
The salute to Drake follows a successful, sold-out Taylor Swift tribute night at the East Vancouver venue in the fall of last year.
Drake’s most recent albums are If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which is his fourth platinum album, and What a Time to Be Alive. The latter is a collaboration with Atlanta rapper Future. According to Wikipedia, the latter record “debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, Billboard R&B Charts, and Billboard Hot Rap Songs, marking the first time a rapper was able to score two number 1’s in a year in 11 years, since Jay Z back in 2004. The album has currently sold 334,000 copies in the U.S.”
In the summer of 2015, Drake headlined the Squamish Valley Music Festival, just outside of Vancouver.
Partial proceeds from the Drake tribute will go towards the Chrysalis Society, a group dedicated to help women recover from addiction, poverty and violence.
Kaylee Johnston is one of the Vancouver musicians who will help salute Toronto’s gift to hip-hop tonight at the Biltmore Cabaret.
The show starts at 9. Early bird tickets start at $10 at ticketfly.com.
