It’s Earth Day weekend, and thoughtfulness is on-theme. Explore our shared future with Indigenous elders, check out a zero-waste pop-up-shop, support local crafters, discuss affordability, go for a walking tour, or check out TEDx in East Van. (It’s also William Shakespeare’s 400th death-a-versary, and there are a few ways to celebrate that as well.)

Happy Hour: A Future We Can’t Afford?
Where: Museum of Vancouver, 6:00pm
What: In the face of skyrocketing housing prices and shrinking vacancy rates, there is no shortage of opinions on how affordability is impacting young people. That said, it’s less common to hear opinions directly from young people themselves. Presented by Metropolitan Collective and Two by Fore, a diverse panel of young citymakers will share their views on array of questions ranging from the basics – renting, buying, should I stay or should I go? – to the complex – entitlement, Airbnb and who’s not in the room?

In this playful adaptation of the classic coming-of-age tale, The Jungle Book imagines a wilderness all our own atop monkey bars, under slides, and amidst the jungle of a neighborhood playground.

In the Footprint of the Crocodile Man

What: The Sepik River of Papua New Guinea is one of the largest river systems in the world, extraordinarily beautiful, but seldom visited. It is here that the Iatmul people, who live along its banks, have created internationally renowned works of art primarily inspired by stories of the majestic crocodile as the primordial creator. This unique exhibition will showcase the most comprehensive collection of contemporary Sepik art in North America for the first time. In addition to highlighting the exquisite carvings of Papua New Guinea’s latmul people, the exhibition will delve into their economic, cultural, and spiritual connections to the river system, drawing urgent attention to the logging and mining operations that pose environmental threats to the region.
