Stack The Rack and Sip Wine for Qmunity
By Kendell Yan
Whether you’re a world class sommelier or a casual wine drinker who chooses bottles by the label (no judgements) I think we can all agree that wine pairs well with community engagement. On November 29th come out and taste some of the best wines in BC at Stack the Rack 2016: A Benefit for Qmunity.
Qmunity is a non-profit organization in Vancouver that is dedicated to improving LGBTQ2+ lives through the creation of safe spaces and community services. They operate with three pillars as their goals: Support, Connection, and Leadership. In order to actualize these goals, Qmunity provides free counselling, information and referrals, one-on-one peer support for youth, and access to gender-affirming chestwear. They offer peer-facilitated support and social groups, volunteer and practicum opportunities, and strive to empower the community with queer competency workshops, educational resources, and advisory and consulting services.
The Qmunity, at 1170 Bute street (or the accessible location at 610-1033 Davie street), houses operate a wide array of services such as the transgender health program which was moved from Vancouver General Hospital in 2002. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Qmunity was also the Vancouver Pride House, maintaining a focus on educating travellers about Vancouver’s LGBTQ2+ community, and they provided legal information regarding immigration and asylum for non-Canadian athletes.
Celebrating its 6th year, Stack the Rack 2016: A Benefit for Qmunity is an opportunity to visit the Telus Garden for an enchanting night of local wines, canapes, and entertainment while fostering the Qmunity’s goal of building a stronger, more informed, and more empowered LGBTQ2+ community. There will be both a silent and a live auction, a raffle, as well as performances from local artists. Tickets can be purchased online at $145 each.
