Sizzling Summer Events in Vancouver Beaches
Vancouver is truly spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying a day at a city beach. Apart from spending a day relaxing and enjoying a picnic, the city’s local beaches host popular events, too! Here are three to consider for this summer:
The Honda Celebration of Light is the longest running offshore fireworks competition in the world and this year it takes place July 22, 26 and 29. Dozens of countries have been hosted over the years to compete with each other in a spectacular fireworks display on English Bay beach. This year Australia, Mexico and The Philippines will compete for the title. With family-friendly activities from 2 to 8pm and the fireworks show at 10pm, it’s a great opportunity to make it a full day at the beach!
Bard on the Beach is Western Canada’s largest Shakespeare Festival. Presented in Vancouver’s Vanier Park in the Kitsilano neighbourhood and against a breathtaking backdrop of mountains, sea and sky, the Festival presents Shakespeare plays, related dramas and special events in two modern tents from June to September.
Drawing more than 40,000 visitors each year, the Vancouver Folk Festival at Jericho Beach Park July 14-16 is a community-based celebration of traditional and contemporary folk and roots music from all over the world. Celebrating its 46th year, the Festival is a beloved event where one can enjoy great music, great food, and dance in its magical ambience.
