Explore Vancouver with Tips from these Locals
There’s nothing like a local’s perspective for exploring a new city. A few of Tourism Vancouver’s volunteers have shared with us their insider tips for experiencing the city they love.
Bryon Crittenden, Born in Manitoba but has lived in BC since he was five.
Favourite neighbourhood: ” I spend a lot of time in Chinatown.”
Hidden gem he loves: “The Buddhist Temple near Main and Keefer. You would never find it unless you knew where to look.”
Janet Bates, A life-long Vancouverite, born and raised in North Vancouver.
Favourite neighbourhood: “The West End since I love the diversity and proximity to the ocean, coupled with the adventure of poking around the shops, eateries and community gardens in the neighbourhood.”
Hidden gem she loves: “Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver as the view of the ocean with the city in the background on a sunny day is spectacular!”
Cecilia Teixeira, Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but has lived here since 2012 when her and her husband immigrated to Canada as Permanent Residents.
Favourite neighbourhood: “I love where I live, Coal Harbour. I love to go biking along the seawall on a daily basis.”
Favourite attraction: Stanley Park. “Where in the world can we find a 1001 acre park inside a city, with lots of First Nations’ History, ancient trees including one that is big enough to accommodate a car (Hollow Tree), World War I & II History, legends and tales (like Siwash Rock), lakes, one of the best aquariums in the world, amazing views and diversified fauna with bald eagles, herons, small birds, squirrels, harbour seals, raccoons..?”
Allison Baxter, originally from Victoria, but has lived in Vancouver for 18 years.
Favourite restaurant: “Currently it is Jules Bistro on Abbott Street. It’s a really cute French restaurant in Gastown and the food is amazing.”
Hidden gem she loves: “The Secret Tea Garden in Kerrisdale. I love afternoon tea and I think it’s probably the best tea in the city (with the cutest atmosphere).”
