A trip to Vancouver never feels long enough. But sometimes life gets in the way of an extended vacation. So if your schedule allows for just one day in Vancouver, here’s how to plan your trip and make the most of it.

Whether you’re a first-time solo visitor or a seasoned Vancouver visitor, this Vancouver one-day itinerary captures the best of the city, from the famous Vancouver Seawall and local mountains to world-class dining.

Morning: Grab a Coffee at One of the City's Best Cafés

With only one day to explore, every hour counts. So set that alarm and roll out of bed because there’s a whole city waiting to be explored. Early starts call for caffeine, so your first order of business is to grab a morning pick-me-up.

Wander over to Gastown, where winding cobblestone streets are home to cozy cafés on every corner. Coffee connoisseurs will feel right at Milano Espresso Lounge, where the art of espresso is serious business. With warm wood interiors and the toasty aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the room, it’s the ideal place to sip on a foamy cappuccino and watch the city pass by.

Mid-Morning: Fuel up with a Tasty Breakfast Downtown

After your caffeine kick, make your way to Davie for a life-changing breakfast experience. Since 2012, Yolks on has been serving up sweet and savoury, crave-worthy brunch dishes. Think perfectly poached egg sandwiches served with truffle-lemon potatoes and organic buttermilk fried chicken and waffles.

For a lighter breakfast, head west along Water Street to Nemesis Coffee, where an eye-catching lineup of laminated croissants, creative flavours, and light savoury plates awaits. Their ever-changing pastry assortment is a standout, especially paired with crispy avocado toast seasoned with sumac and za’atar.

Early Afternoon: Spend Your One Day in Vancouver at Stanley Park

Once you’ve had your fill of tasty eats and caffeinated beverages, it's time to get outside and explore. Stanley Park is Vancouver's sanctuary within the city. Spanning more than 1,000 acres of old-growth rainforest, beaches, and waterfront, it’s the ideal place to refresh. Drive through the park’s scenic loop or rent a bike and ride the 9-kilometre seawall path for an up-close look at the lush rainforest and ocean views.

Stop at Brockton Point to see one of Vancouver’s top attractions — the collection of Indigenous totem poles. Snap photos, read the interpretive signage, and learn about the local First Nations culture before continuing along the park’s loop road.

Head next to Prospect Point, a scenic overlook where you can stretch your legs and take in spectacular views of the Lions Gate Bridge, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver.

Additional Nature Excursions

Late Afternoon: Choose Indoor or Outdoor Adventures

Depending on your vibe, head indoors for some weather-proof activities or channel your adventure side and hop across the water to Vancouver's North Shore.

Option #1: Check Out the Vancouver Aquarium

After a morning spent among the trees, wander over to the southeast side of Stanley Park to the Vancouver Aquarium. The aquarium is home to tens of thousands of aquatic species and plays a vital role in marine research, rehabilitation, and rescue. It’s an experience for kids and adults alike looking to deepen their understanding of and fascination with our incredible marine ecosystem.

Option #2: Explore the North Shore

Head across the Lions Gate Bridge into the mountains of North Vancouver. Take a left at Capilano Road and keep driving up until you reach the base of Grouse Mountain. Take the Skyride to the peak for jawdropping views. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours here, and make sure you visit the grizzly bears at the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife.

  • Tip: This is one of the highlights of any Vancouver in one day itinerary — plan enough time to soak it in.

On your way back to downtown Vancouver, be sure to stop at the Capilano Suspension Bridge (which you will have passed on your way to Grouse Mountain). Make your way across the swaying bridge and explore the park's Treetops Adventure—a series of interconnected platforms and bridges linking giant trees. Next up, take the thrilling Cliffwalk, a cantilevered walkway that juts out over the canyon and river below.

Evening: Pick a Neighbourhood to Explore & Grab Dinner

Use dinnertime to explore one of the city’s many flavourhoods. For authentic asian cuisine, just a 10-minute Uber from the center of downtown, head to Vancouver’s Chinatown. Explore local shops and visit the peaceful Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, before heading to a restaurant for dinner.
