From Goal Nets to Hammocks: How Vancouver is Giving the FIFA World Cup™ a Second Life

While the FIFA World Cup 2026™ has left Vancouver, it’s also left its mark.

Thirty-nine days of tournament action and seven matches held in the city brought an energy unlike one felt before. Fans from around the world cheered on their countries in our streets, bars and watch parties, transforming Vancouver into a citywide celebration and creating memories that will last long after the final whistle.

And although much of the excitement has settled, one unique installation remains, reminding visitors to Recouver in Vancouver post-tournament, soccer-style.

Hammock Goals is a series of custom hammocks crafted from soccer nets that have popped up at locations across the city, including one made from the actual FIFA World Cup™ Vancouver match-played goal net. It’s a part of Destination Vancouver’s Recouver in Vancouver initiative that invites visitors to slow the pace, look back on all the excitement the tournament had to offer and experience the city from a more relaxed perspective.

And these unprecedented swinging seats have certainly created that opportunity for anyone spending time in the city, providing idyllic spaces to slow down and sink into a piece of the tournament’s legacy.

About the Hammock Goals project

Made locally in Vancouver, additional hammocks crafted from goal nets will be gifted to the Swiss Football Association and Football Australia as a reminder of their historic matches in the city and an open invitation to return and recouver, any time. Thanks to BC Place, which helped make the project possible by supplying the nets, visitors can continue enjoying the remaining hammock installations throughout the summer.

Depending on where you find one, you might be gazing at mountain peaks, ocean views, lush greenery or urban energy with your feet in the air. Or, in true Vancouver fashion, all of the above. Because here, they’re never far from one another.

Grouse Mountain

At the peak of Vancouver, sink into the series feature signature installation, the hammock crafted from the goal net used during all seven FIFA World Cup™ matches held at BC Place. And do it while breathing in fresh mountain air and soaking in the sweeping skyline views.

Kitsilano Pool

During an inevitable trip to Kitsilano to hit the beach this summer, be sure to have your turn in a net-made hammock set on the seaside pool deck.

Van Dusen Botanical Garden

In the heart of the city lies a 55-acre garden oasis at the Van Dusen Botanical Garden, where a soccer-net hammock hangs in the maple grove. An idyllic setting for lying back and swinging to your heart’s content.

Stanley Park

Within the old-growth green oasis of Stanley Park, near the Pitch & Putt, is one of the city’s best summer spots for tree-bathing and general hanging. A natural home for a good hammock.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

Take a little rest break while exploring Vancouver’s historic Chinatown with a siesta in the hammock located outside of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, a classical Chinese garden and museum.
