MONOVA: Walks with History

Overview
MONOVA’s Walks with History are immersive, guided walking tours that explore the layered histories of North Vancouver’s Lower Lonsdale and Shipyards District. Participants engage with local history by standing in the places where history happened.
Shipyard Pal takes participants on an immersive journey through the Shipyards District – led by a ‘shipyards pal’ guide, this engaging 60-minute experience explores how North Vancouver helped shape Canada’s WWII efforts, building a ship a week at its peak.
Lower Lonsdale walking tour explores the rich and complex history of the neighbourhood from the traditional Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories of Eslhá7an, to iconic local landmarks like the Syndicate Block and the St. Alice Hotel. Participants explore how industrial logging, wartime housing, and community resilience have shaped the neighbourhood — all while reflecting on Indigenous history, environmental changes, and social challenges that still resonate today.
