About
Explore the Galaxy this summer at Metropolis at Metrotown. Starting June 16 until September 1, Summer at the Met brings an (inter)stellar roster of festivities to visitors of BC’s largest shopping centre.
From July 3 - 6, indulge at the Summer Market at the Met.Visit Metropolis at Metrotown’s headlining summer festivity at the South Plaza, across from the Metrotown Skytrain Station. An outdoor free-to-enter market, the event features more than 15 food vendors offering a constellation of culinary delights, live music, and thrilling performances like SMASH! (an electrifying fusion of music, theatre, and street percussion). Additional family-friendly activities include balloon twisting, face painting, caricature drawing, photo opportunities with an astronaut, alien, and robot, and even a Roaming Selfie Ring Photo Booth.
On July 19 from 12pm - 2pm, get your galactic groove on with a Summer Dance Party.A roving, space-themed soirée will wind its way through the shopping centre, stopping at various locations so shoppers can join the action. A mobile DJ keeps the music pulsing, while astronauts and aliens hand out prizes as they dance to the beats.
On July 26 and 27 from 12pm - 3pm, wander among the stars at Starlab, a collaboration with H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. The space centre will offer engaging 10-minute educational experiences called Starlab - a pop-up planetarium where guests can learn fascinating facts about space.
From June 16 until September 1, explore the Galaxy at the Met with a Summer Passport. Visitors can pop by Guest Services to obtain a Summer Passport and discover various Summer at the Met activities while collecting stamps along the way. Guests who gather seven stamps, will receive a surprise gift, while those who collect 10 stamps are eligible for a chance to win a prize valued at $100.
From June 16 until September 1, visit outer space with incredible galactic displays. Guests and visitors of the shopping centre can enjoy captivating, out-of-this-world décor by local design studio, Lazy Wizard Design. Immersive floor decals create the illusion of ground splitting beneath your feet, while QR codes unlock fascinating insights about space and extraterrestrial flora. Photo opportunities are plentiful, with UFOs, astronauts, and aliens popping up throughout the shopping centre. On the Upper Level, near Zara, visitors can hop from planet to planet across a solar system design embedded in the floor. The celestial journey continues in the Grand Court, where more stunning planetary displays can be found, with the biggest measuring 4.5 metres wide.
The shopping centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 9pm, and Sunday, 11am – 7pm. For more information about Metropolis at Metrotown’s summer offerings, including the Summer Market at the Met, visit www.metropolisatmetrotown.com.
