Wait, is it Christmas already?

Breathe easy—it’s still a few months away so you still have time for holiday preparations.

But Vancouver’s screen scene is getting into seasonal spirit in a variety of ways and for a variety of occasions.

Fit for the creepiness of the Halloween season, a classic anthology series that explores what-ifs, alternate realities, and the inexplicable is gearing up to shoot its second season.

Also back for a second season is a dystopian thriller about humans surviving on a train after the world freezes over.

And although it’s not even Halloween yet, there’s a sequel to a smash-hit Christmas movie that will turn local streets into holiday time.

Here’s a quick look at what’s shooting this week in Vancouver and in the weeks to come.

Christmas Chronicles

One of Netflix’s most popular movies is getting a follow up.

Christmas Chronicles 2 gets on set today (September 23) and keeps going until December 19

This sequel, directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) who produced the first film, will continue after the events in the first feature.

Christmas Chronicles

In the first instalment, two siblings, Teddy and Kate (Judah Lewis and Darby Camp), attempt to capture Santa on camera.

But when their effort accidentally derails Santa’s annual mission, the pair wind up pitching in to help save Christmas before it’s too late.

Christmas Chronicles

Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) will reprise the role of Santa Claus. The rest of the cast hasn’t been revealed yet so it remains to be seen if Lewis and Camp will appear in the sequel.

An official date for its premiere hasn’t been announced yet but Christmas 2020 is anticipated as when it will most likely be released.

Christmas Chronicles

For our next stop, we cross over into the middle ground between light and shadow, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind, and a land whose boundaries are that of imagination.

Christmas Chronicles

The 2019 revival series of The Twilight Zonewill begin principal photography for Season 2 on October 6 and continue until March 16, 2020.

Season 1 premiered on April 1 (no foolin’). This new version was developed by Simon Kingberg, Marco Ramirez, and Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us), with Peele also serving as narrator.

Christmas Chronicles

The anthology series—which incorporates elements of fantasy, sci-fi, horror, thriller, and more—was renewed for a second season on April 29.

Christmas Chronicles

Season 1 featured stars like Zazie Beetz, Kumail Nanjiani, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Cho, Vancouver’s own Seth Rogen, and more.

We’ll have to wait to see who Season 2 brings to town.

Christmas Chronicles

Another genre series coming back to shoot its second season is Snowpiercer.

This dystopian sci-fi thriller TV series will shoot from October 21 to March 20, 2020.

Christmas Chronicles

It’s a reboot of the 2013 film of the same name (directed by Bong Joon-ho) in which the last survivors of humanity live aboard a train that perpetually circles the globe, which has been overtaken by a new Ice Age.

Christmas Chronicles

The cast for Season 1 included Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Alison Wright, Susan Park, and more.

But we’ll have to wait to see who’s returning for the second season and also when the new season will premiere.

Christmas Chronicles

That’s it for this week but as you can see, there’s plenty to look forward to.

In the weeks to come, we’ll have updates on these shows as well as whatever else crops up because—as you surely know by now—the only constant in Vancouver’s screen scene is change.
