Tourism Vancouver is very pleased to announce the promotion of Gwendal Castellan to Manager, Sustainable Destination Development.
Gwendal began his tenure with Tourism Vancouver in 2012 under BC Hydro’s Energy Specialist program which wrapped up in 2016. The Sustainable Destination Specialist position was created in October 2016. One year later, the position was reviewed and determined to be a key role within Destination Development.
This role initially started out working with Members to help them minimize their environmental footprint and implement sustainability initiatives. After two years, it has evolved significantly to greater engagement and influence with City policy managers and external stakeholders while elevating Tourism Vancouver’s environmental credibility and level of authority.
In the year ahead, Gwendal will continue to work with members, key stakeholders and government policymakers to identify pathways to address hotel room inventory capacity constraints. Gwendal welcomes the opportunity to support and expand Tourism Vancouver's community engagement initiatives and looks forward to developing dialogue with residents, which he is confident will ultimately, strengthen the process towards obtaining a Global Sustainable Tourism Council accredited certification for Vancouver.
Gwendal has represented Tourism Vancouver at conferences such as Sustainable Brands, IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism, and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. His work externally has led to his recent appointment to the Sustainability Advisory Committee of the Events Industry Council (Washington, D.C.).
Please join Tourism Vancouver in congratulating Gwendal on his promotion!
