TransLink teams up with tourism agencies to promote region’s dining hotspots

Dine the Line campaign highlights dining destinations around the region

TransLink today announced a partnership with WestCoastFood and 13 destination marketing groups to promote Metro Vancouver’s dining and brewpub neighbourhoods.

WestCoastFood is an initiative that was created to highlight the Lower Mainland section of the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains region as a culinary hub, and to promote the food of the various communities as a driver of tourism.

Dine the Line will feature restaurant and craft brewery tours in neighbourhoods throughout the region and will encourage tourists and diners to take transit while enjoying a day out.

The campaign will suggest new culinary experiences by providing maps and videos that highlight restaurant and brewery tours at westcoastfood.ca/dinetheline. Dine the Line makes finding a great new restaurant simple, creating three separate experiences along each of TransLink’s SkyTrain lines.

“We want people to get out there and experience Metro Vancouver’s unique dining and brewpub neighbourhoods and we want people to use transit to get there,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “Transit connects our communities in so many ways and we want transit to be the way that residents and tourists discover culinary hubs throughout our great city.”

TransLink customers will soon see posters on the system they can use to quickly find information on participating restaurants, like el Santo in New Westminster. Executive Chef Sam Fabbro says the partnership makes sense. “Taking the SkyTrain is great, it connects us to the vibrant Vancouver food scene. It's so close to so many of the cities’ great restaurants. We at el Santo love being steps away from the New West station, it allows guests from all over Metro Van to access us easily.”

It’s a great fit for visitors as well. “Over the years, Metro Vancouver has become known as a destination that is home to both diverse and creative dining experiences. Dine the Line makes it easy for visitors to check out our celebrated food scene,” says Ty Speer CEO of Tourism Vancouver. “Embarking on a Dine the Line tour is like having a local guide who knows the best spots to eat in the city, and best of all, they’re accessible by transit.”

Taking part is simple. Choose an experience at the Dine the Line website, use transit and have fun. New culinary experiences are posted every week to WestCoastFood.ca.
