2019 has been a particularly special year for Rugby and Vancouver, as the city was named one of 10 stops on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for the next four years. Since Vancouver’s first hosting in 2016, Sevens Rugby, a quicker paced and shorter version of traditional rugby, has grown in popularity attracting large audiences in markets around the world.
This year’s HSBC tournament took place in March; however, the excitement doesn’t stop there. On September 7, 2019, international rugby will return to BC Place as Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team will host a second pre-Rugby World Cup match against their rivals the United States -- kickoff will be 7:00 pm PT. The match will be set to a lower bowl configuration of BC Place Stadium, and fans are highly encouraged to purchase their tickets early to avoid missing out on the big game.
Rugby enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to mix-and-mingle with the Canada Sevens and support the team’s journey to Japan, at a fundraising “Suits and Scrums” event on September 5th at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Vancouver.
Tickets will go on sale at 10:00 am ET on May 29th via www.rugby.ca. At the Rugby World Cup, Canada has been drawn into Pool B and will face Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, and Namibia between September 26 to October 13 in various locations around Japan.
If you're travelling from out of town or in the mood for a staycation, StayVancouverHotels is offering two FREE premium centre tickets for Canada versus the USA on September 7th, 2019 when rugby fans check-in to one of 38 participating downtown Vancouver hotels. Guests must book through StayVancouverHotels.com for a minimum one-night stay from June 1- September 9, 2019, using promo code "RUGBYSEPT7".
