Recognized as one of the vanguard male vocal ensembles in North America, JUNO-nominated Chor Leoni will debut their brand-new supergroup in A Sound Like This: Chor Leoni & the Leonids on May 12 and 13. Locally loved and internationally recognized, Chor Leoni’s transformative experience continues to grow with the addition of The Leonids, a group including nine acclaimed male singers specializing in oratorio, new and early music, and art song.
This dream team ensemble will feature solo sets and collaborative performances from both Chor Leoni and The Leonids, with works spanning from re-envisioned madrigals, sacred tangos, atmospheric Latvian and Estonian masterpieces, and uplifting pop and jazz numbers. This blockbuster concert offers the rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest male choirs coupled with one of the most distinguished small ensembles.
The concert will be held at the newly restored St. Andrew’s Wesley United (1022 Nelson St.), starting at 7:30pm. The all-star group will return each year to grace visitors with otherworldly sounds and heavenly harmonies.
The Leonids’ inaugural performance marks a new chapter in Chor Leoni’s history and coincides with the VanMan Choral Summit, where 300 singers of all ages gather for a week of collaboration and celebration. As a final send off, these world class singers join together at the VanMan Summit Concert which will be held at the Chan Centre on May 14.
