On Sunday, June 21, BC Place hosted the memorable meeting between New Zealand and Egypt, gathering two colourful sets of fans to witness a match-winning performance by legendary attacker Mohammed Salah.
Despite leading at half-time, New Zealand came away from the game with plenty of regrets after conceding three times in the second half to lose 3-1 in Group G play.

New Zealand’s Second Half Collapse
After group stage exits in 1982 and 2010, fans of the All Whites travelled to Vancouver in great numbers, hoping they could secure a win that would propel them to the knockout phase for the first time in their history.
Premier League mainstay Chris Wood led the line for New Zealand, providing a focal point for the attack with his height and physicality. Despite taking an early lead, New Zealand wilted under a second half bombardment from Egypt, leaving BC Place with a loss and plenty of regrets.
Egypt’s Impressive Attack Turns Up
Egypt and their talismanic attacker Mohamed Salah arrived at the tournament as Africa’s most decorated side, having won the African Cup of Nations a record seven times. Anchored by a strong defensive unit and an explosive attack, they proved too much for New Zealand on the day.
It took until the 58th minute for Egypt to breakthrough, with Mostafa Ziko finding the equalizer. Mohamed Salah then took centre stage, finishing off a tidy move with a trademark finish that gave Egypt the lead. Trezeguet provided the finishing touch with the 3rd and final goal in the 82nd minute
