‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the city, not a production was stirring, not even a miniseries.

Well, not quite. But a number of productions are taking a break for the holiday season and several are wrapping up.

That said, the new year will bring a number of new productions to the city, and we’ve already got one on our radar.

One of the new TV productions kicking off in 2017 will be Date My Dad.

This family dramedy starts shooting on January 17 and continues until April 12.

The series follows Ricky Parker, whose beloved wife died three years ago. Since that time, Ricky’s sole agenda has been to devote himself to his three daughters, aged 10, 13, and 15 years old.

Although his mother-in-law has been helping him raise the girls, she has decided to move away.

However, the girls have some plans of their own as they try to find a girlfriend for their father as he turns 40 years old.

But it’ll be a crash course, as he hasn’t dated for two decades. Luckily for him, his girls will be there to give him advice—which, considering their tender ages and inexperience themselves, may not be the best thing.

The cast is yet to be announced.

The TV series Ice, starring Cam Gigandet, will be wrapping up production this week.

Meanwhile, another production in which teens lead the way—though through some much darker territory—finished up its shoot.

The Canadian horror-comedy feature film Dead Shack, directed by Vancouver filmmaker Peter Ricq, wrapped up on December 17.

The story, inspired by ‘80s flicks, follows 14-year-old Jason, his friend Colin, and his older sister Summer, who are taken by their hard-partying parents to a rundown cabin in the woods (that they found on Craigslist) for a getaway.

When the kids witness the neighbouring woman drugging and feeding two local guys to her undead family, and when their parents are too drunk to heed their warnings, it’s up to the kids to ensure they’re not the next meal.

Sounds like any of your summer vacations? We hope not.

Another TV series that ended production this past weekend was the 10-episode, half-hour scripted comedy Loudermilk. Season 1, which began shooting back on October 24, completed its shoot on December 18.

Created by writer-director Peter Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary) and Bobby Mort (writer for The Colbert Report), the series revolves around the titular character played by Ron Livingston.

He’s a recovering alcoholic who happens to be a substance-abuse counsellor—with a bad attitude who pisses everyone off. Yikes.

The cast includes Brendan McNamara, Timothy Webber, Alia Domino, Noel Johansen, Corey Schmitt, Emma Tremblay, and Eric Keenleyside.

Another series finishing up is one with a name quite appropriate for the city’s current weather.

The series, in which Vancouver plays Los Angeles, follows the lives of the Green family, who run a business of diamond trading.

On the same day (December 21), the romcom-drama No Tomorrow also calls it a wrap. The series began shooting Season 1 on August 23 and premiered on TV on October 4.

It’s based on the Brazilian TV series Como Aproveitar o Fim do Mundo (How to Enjoy the End of the World).

In the series, in which Vancouver plays Seattle, a bored, ultra-cautious quality-control assessor (Tori Anderson) falls for an eccentric thrill seeker (Joshua Sasse, who happens to be engaged to pop star Kylie Minogue) who believes the apocalypse is coming.

He convinces her to compile a bucket list and they set about trying to complete everything on their lists.

As we previously mentioned, on Tuesday (December 20), The Mountain Between Us, starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba, goes on hiatus until January 3.

Also as we previously mentioned, quite a number of locally shot TV series are also going on hiatus for the holiday season and will be back in January.

Well, that’s it for this week as we head right into Christmas. Be sure to check back in with us next week as a number of TV series will be wrapping up after we usher in the new year.

Until then, best wishes to all for the season and may your holidays be as glittery as Hollywood North!
