With the close of this year’s Vancouver International Wine Festival, you can now anticipate the upcoming BC Distilled Festival, which takes place April 8, 2017, and also features exciting lead-up events the week before the big night. Recently, British Columbia has seen an explosion of artisan and micro-distilleries, making 2017’s Festival particularly exciting.

The BC Distilled Festival is now in its fourth year and holds the title of being Canada’s largest artisan distillery event. The event will be held on April 8 at the Croatian Culture Centre (3520 Commercial Drive), bringing together 34 BC distilleries, including Central City Brewing and Distilling, Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers, Long Table Distillery, Odd Society Sprits, and Yaletown Distilling.

Invite a date along, or a group of friends, and spend an evening tasting the spirits on offer; meeting their producers and learning more about their artisan craft; sampling bites from top restaurants and establishments, like Timber, Juniper, Cascade Room, and Lucky’s Doughnuts; as well as sipping products from companies such as Walter Caesar and Philips Soda.

Early bird tickets ($59.99 each) for the Festival are now available on-line. The early bird price holds until 200 tickets are sold or March 8, whichever comes first.

During the week before the Festival, there will also be three themed tastings, called Legacy BC Spirits Showcases (1633 Manitoba Street), which will be lead by experts, such as Randy Gaudreau, Shabeen head barman and whisky expert. April 3 will feature a flight of six BC gins, plus a bonus spirit; April 4 will showcase six BC whiskies and a rare barrel-aged surprise sample from the Okanagan; and April 5 will introduce attendees to barrel-aged gins, as well as a surprise spirit. Tickets for these tastings range from $34.99 to $44.99 and are available on-line.

Finally, Forage (1300 Robson Street) will be hosting a very special Distillers Dinners on April 7. The event will see executive chef Chris Whittaker creating six courses, paired with spirits from Wayward, Sheringham, Dubh Glas, Odd Society, and Sons of Vancouver. The dinner is $78 per person and tickets are available on-line as well.
