Twenty local bands are part of the action this Saturday (July 16) as the second annual Taco Fest takes over Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium (3883 Imperial Street).

As you might have guessed from the name, there is also food – multiple taco and and other sorts of food vendors will be selling their wares. Special events at the 10-hour festival, which starts at noon, include the Ring of Fire Taco-Eating Contest (scheduled for 6 p.m) and the Gigantic Taco Pinata (which you’ll be able to take a thwack at beginning at 8:25, according to this interview with organizer Johnny Matter), filled with swag and prizes.

Food vendors include El Cartel Food Truck, The Fish Shack by Global, Holi Masala Food Truck, Veras Taco Shack Food Truck, Lux Lounge, Falconetti’s East Side Grill, Lenny’s Lemonade, Aqua Juice Cart, Say Hello Sweets Ice Cream Truck, Mollies Donut Truck, Johnny’s Popsicle Cart and Intercontinental Flavours Popsicle Cart. Festival-goers will also be able to purchase hot sauce, clothes, artistic creations and more at vendor booths.

Who will bust open the giant taco pinata at the 2016 Taco Fest?

La Chinga is one of 20 local bands playing the 2016 Taco Fest this Saturday at Swangard Stadium.

Admission for the all-ages event is $15 in advance at tacofest, $20 at the event. Kids 10 years and under (accompanied by an adult) and adults 65 and older get in free. Stay up-to-date by checking out the Taco Fest Facebook page.
