Filming in Vancouver: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 3, Supernatural, and more

Things are getting busy, busy, busy as today marks the start of three screen projects.
Two TV series and a Netflix feature are getting on set in town as we speak.
One of them is a crazy-popular teen romance, another is a superhero series that is the last of its related shows to get going, and another is a UFO investigation series that’s based on historical fact.
Meanwhile, there’s a wistful note as one of the longest-running series commences production on its final season.
So for details on what’s happening in Vancouver’s screen scene this week, join us after the jump…

Be still beating hearts, for it begins—To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 3 is scheduled to start production in Vancouver today (July 15) and will continue until August 20.
Following a shoot in New York City, the third movie in the series (most likely based on the third and final book in the series, Always and Forever, Lara Jean) is beginning the Vancouver leg of its filming schedule.

The first film shot in 2017 in Vancouver as well as Portland, Oregon.
The sequel recently shot from March to May of this year—a release date hasn’t even been announced yet for the second movie while this third one is already underway.
The films are based on Jenny Han’s young adult romance book series.

Lana Condor (Deadly Class) plays the lead character of Lara Jean Song Covey, whose secret love letters to her male crushes wind up in the hands of their recipients (even though they were never meant to be sent to them).

Cast members Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Emilija Baranac, and John Corbett all returned for the second installation and were joined by Ross Butler and Jordan Fisher.

We’ll have to wait to see who is in the third film besides Condor and Centineo. And when it will be released.

Moving on to other exciting news, a TV universe of superheroes is now fully in action.
With Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Catwoman already on set, there was just one Arrowverse show that was left to join the pack.

Last but not definitely not least, Legends of Tomorrowbegins shooting Season 5 today (July 15) and filming will keep going until January 29, 2020.
And here’s some scary news for you: a major villain is returning to the show this season.

Astra Logue (Olivia Swann), who was banished to hell after a failed exorcism by John Constantine (Matt Ryan), will return to battle Constantine.

The cast includes Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Amy Louise Pemberton, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

Shifting to a historical sci-fi drama, yet another TV series is getting going today.
Project Blue Book starts shooting 10 episodes for Season 2 today (July 15) and runs until November 13.
This show is based on the real-life U.S. Air Force investigations into alleged UFO encounters and other inexplicable phenomenon in the 1950s and ‘60s.

Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones) stars as astrophysicist Dr. J. Allen Hynek who, along with Air Force Captain Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey) examine unusual cases claiming to involve extraterrestrial activity—many of which challenge traditional scientific knowledge.

The cast includes Laura Mennell, Ksenia Solo, Michael Harney, and Neal McDonough.

And alas, there’s some sad news to share in this roundup.
Almost as eternal as the undead creatures on the show, Supernatural starts filming 20 episodes for Season 15 on Thursday (July 18) and won’t call it a wrap until April 2, 2020.

But it’s the last time it’ll call it a wrap.
Because, yes, this is finally the final season for what is currently the longest-running series filming in Vancouver.

Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins revealed in March that the 2019-2020 season would be the show’s last one.
Ackles will also serve as director for the fourth episode of this final season.
For one last hurrah, brothers Sam and Dean Winchester (Padalecki and Ackles), along with the angel Castiel (Collins) will continue their ongoing quest to battle evil supernatural creatures across the world.

The season premiere will be on October 10.
Supernatural will join Arrow, which also began filming Season 8 last week, as long-time series that are shooting their last seasons in Vancouver.
So it looks like there will be many sad departures of familiar faces in the local filming industry.

That said, however, there are always new shows cropping up all the time, bringing in new faces and storylines, and we’ll cover them all as we continue on with our weekly coverage of what’s filming in Vancouver.
