In this week’s roundup, there’s an alternate U.S. history series that will start shooting in town, just as a predatory thriller and a tech comedy call it a wrap. Plus, there are a few other tidbits in store.

First up, history buffs will be interested to know that the alternative history drama series The Man in the High Castle starts production on Season 3 on Wednesday (May 17) and continues until October 17.

Olivia Munn is one of the stars of the much-anticipated sci-fi-thriller The Predator.

Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, the series is set in an alternate America in the 1960s, in which the Axis powers have won the Second World War and divided the USA into the Greater Nazi Reich and the Japanese Pacific States.

The cast includes Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, DJ Qualls, Joel de la Fuente, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Rufus Sewell.

In other news, the feature film Stingray was slated to start shooting today, continuing until June 27. However, it’s currently on hiatus, with production dates yet to be determined.

This rural crime thriller, directed by Anthony Hayes, stars Jon Bernthal as a man who becomes involved with organized crime in a small town.

When he accidentally kills the brother of a powerful gangster (Joel Edgerton), he is forced to kill one of his own family members within two days to repay his debt.

Hayes is also listed among the cast.

On a more monstrous note, The Predator wraps up filming today (May 15). This sequel, directed by Shane Black, will be the fourth installation in the franchise and the first film in the series since 2010’s Predators.

The original Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was released back in 1987 and this new film is intended to be a sequel, rather than a reboot.

The cast of this new film includes Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Alfie Allen, Edward James Olmos, and Vancouver’s Jacob Tremblay.

Unfortunately, fans will have an even longer wait to see it on the big screen, as the release date has been pushed from its original scheduled date of February 9, 2018, to a new theatrical release date of August 3, 2018.

Meanwhile, the TV pilot for Singularity wraps up on Wednesday (May 17).

Directed by Vancouver’s Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the TV series will take a comedic look at life with artificial intelligence.

Damon Wayans Jr. (Happy Endings) stars as a man who embraces all the creature-comforts that AI has to offer. Michelle Buteau (Broad City) will play his opinionated girlfriend who knows how to use technology to get what she wants.

The cast includes Amanda Lund, Langston Kerman (Insecure), Samuel Patrick Chau (Imposters), and Tiffany Mo.

An upcoming film that will shoot in Vancouver will be One of a Kind, directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Felix Chong (Infernal Affairs). It’s scheduled to be in production from July 13 to 31.

Unfortunately, details haven’t been released about the film. But perhaps we can expect some Hong Kong glitterati to grace our town with their presence for this project? We’ll let you know once we find out more.

Until then, one can only hope and keep your eyes peeled on the streets of Hollywood North.
